Contact Your Librarian
Research assistants are encouraged to schedule a meeting with a librarian upon starting a new project. Librarians can provide guidance and instruction on effective research strategies, offer support for use and storage of data, purchase ebooks for the Library’s collections, and more. Workshops and Training
The Library offers workshops on a variety of research topics from citation managers (Zotero and EndNote), GIS tools, statistical software, scholarly publishing, and other topics of interest to researchers. Faculty may request customized training for their research assistants or research labs. A self-guided Library Orientation Course is also available on Canvas.
Special Collections Research Center
The Special Collections Research Center is home to the University of Chicago Library’s rare books, archives, and manuscript collections. Special Collections is a vibrant, interactive place to conduct research and engage with original sources. Several of their collections and exhibits have been digitized.

For Chicago-related topics, Explore Chicago Collections is an online portal providing access to more than 100,000 maps, photos, and letters held at many of these institutions.
Campus Museum Resources
Museums on UChicago’s campus are offering virtual tours of exhibits and collections and access to archival material. The Oriental Institute’s online resources provides opportunities to explore the collections, view exhibits, and browse digital publications. Search the collection at the Smart Museum of Art or explore the museum virtually and take advantage of a range digital resources, artist interviews, and more.
